Newington Wrap-Up Tournament

The final weekend of the season was a hot one, with temperatures topping 90 degrees at the Newington Wrap-Up Tournament. All nine CYS travel teams had a strong showing, with every team competing hard across four games.

Congratulations to our Girls U15 and Boys U9 teams for winning their divisions, and to our Girls U10 and Boys U12 teams for finishing second in their divisions!

A special thank you to all the team managers and parents who helped organize team meet-ups between games and made the weekend such a great experience for the players!

Connecticut has multiple ties to the 2026 World Cup:

Matt Turner (Goalkeeper - USA) - Originally from New Jersey, Matt Turner did not start playing organized soccer until age 14. He walked on as a goalkeeper at Fairfield University, where he played from 2012-2015. After going undrafted in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, he signed with the New England Revolution and eventually became one of the top goalkeepers in MLS, winning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021. His career later took him to Europe, including time with Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, and Crystal Palace. Turner started all four matches for the United States at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and is again on the U.S. roster for the 2026 World Cup.

Cyle Larin (Forward - Canada) - Originally from Brampton, Ontario, Larin played forward at UConn from 2013-2014, scoring 23 goals in 38 games. He was selected No. 1 overall by Orlando City in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and later continued his professional career in Europe. Larin is one of the top goal scorers in Canadian men’s national team history and has represented Canada on both the 2022 and 2026 World Cup rosters.
